Joan Miró is a world-renowned artist who was born in Catalonia in 1893. While he is often described as a Surrealist artist, most of his works combine abstract art with surreal landscapes and scenes. Thanks to his large body of work and his dedication to his craft, Joan Miró is considered to be one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.

Established in 1975, the Fundació Joan Miró was actually created by Miró himself, as a place to display his personal collection. The other aim of the foundation was to create a center in Barcelona that focused on contemporary art.

The building in which the Fundació Joan Miró is located was designed by the architect Josep Lluís Sert. The architecture and the artworks within the building exist in perfect cohesion, and you’ll find that even the landscaping design has been executed with precision and care.
